A little bit about Innis Dagg Island and Zoological Park......

INNIS DAGG ISLAND is a roughly 5,000 square kilometers (over 1.2 million acres!) island entirely dedicated to Innis Dagg Zoological Park. With steep, rocky cliffsides, the island is overall relatively flat at about 25-30m above sea level, the highest hilltop being 62m...It is privately owned, though our zoo and conservation efforts are partly funded through local and federal governments, and largely self sustaining! The south end of the island features a grass-fed beef, lamb and rabbit operation that uses sustainable regenerative agriculture practices to feed not only our animals but our beloved staff team who keep the zoo functioning. A large majority of our keepers, handlers and other staff live on the grounds year round in our housing complex. We also offer a seasonal cabin campground for our spring-summer staff!

To travel around the island...

IDZ offers a train railway loop, bike lanes and off-road biking trails (with bikes to rent), and a gravel maintenance roadway system for travel around the island. While members of the public are not permitted to travel outside zoo premesis, staff are able to access the entirety of the island. Cars and trucks are not permitted on the island, however ATVs, UTVs and motorized bikes/scooters are permitted on designated roads, paths and trails. Staff with appropriate licensing may use IDZ-owned ATVs, golf carts and boats...

So how do we keep the lights on at IDZ?

Here at Innis Dagg Zoo we are dedicated to sustainability, our park is almost exlusively powered by a combination of powerful wind turbines featured along the southern, Atlantic-facing coast, as well as solar panels which can be located at various points on the island. Most notably our Ferry Terminal rooftop as well as a large amount of our shelters and buildings feature at least one solar panel!

So who keeps Innis Dagg Zoological Park running smooth and effeciently?
